Lc. Dinard 'Blue Heaven'

I can't believe I haven't been on the forum since July! Things have been super busy, but I really look forward to catching up.

This is Lc. Dinard 'Blue Heaven'. I can't remember where I got this plant, but I've had it for at least 4 years. Last year was the first flowering and I was so pleased. From what I've read, Dinard won "Best Scent" back in the late nineties at the World Orchid Conference. Last year when the first flower opened, I was so dissapointed because it had no scent. It took a week for it to kick in. Now, I can't imagine having more than one plant in my greenhouse--it really packs a punch in a small space.

This photo is from last year since the pics I took this time around didn't turn out well. This photo shows 3 flowers on 2 sheaths. This time around, Dinard has 4 sheaths and 2 flowers are open so far.

(Does anyone else "name" their orchids? I do and I just call this one "Dinard".)

I don't name them but that sounds like a fun thing to do. I do talk to them so calling them by name would be the next step I guess...

I talk to mine too. I have also been known to threaten! Most of the time the name is derived from some part of the actual name. For instance, my Mtssa. Charles Marden Fitch is referred to as "Mr. Fitch". Me and my sister-in-law are both orchids nuts and at when we get to talking about our plants at a holiday meal, the rest of the family looks at us like we're nuts. They've even asked us on occasion "who" we're talking about!

Very pretty indeed. I think she's too pretty to be called Dinard - looks more like Angel seeing she's' Blue Heaven'. Heehehh.

4 years till flowering??? That sure is a loooong time to wait .... did you get this as a seedling or mericloned plant?

Jojo: Yes, it was a seedling. I am a very patient orchid grower! It has more than paid off--I got it for $6. Oh--she is REALLY smelling now! And the colors get deeper as it ages.
