    Cool Encyclia tampense 'alba'

This orchid always makes me so happy. I guess it is time to repot it, although it seems to like growing very crowded in its little pot. The flowers are just opening, so I will have to update as the spikes and buds develop, but I wanted to share it now anyway. I will also include the video I did on a previous blooming of it to show it off a bit more.

A full shot, though kind of blurry. Sorry about that.

I like this orchid and have a couple of examples of it. One is the varfiety (selection ?) meristemmed, and called "Mendenhall" Does not seem to be any different from a bog standard kind that I have. ( And I could say the same about two other and quite different species I have, where the clone Mendenhall seems no better than the normal.)
I'm always chary of showing/posting this plant, since I assume that mine is a very poor specimen compared to what the folk in Florida must have, since its one of their own, although in fact mine is quite similar to yours , spikes maybe a couple of feet high and at the best half a dozen very well-spaced flowers per spike. Maybe next time around I will take heart.

Very clean, healthy looking Encyclia. I love the green and white combination of colors. Great lip on this. AL

Geoff, if you don't mind me saying this, I think your Encyclia tampensis sounds quite respectable to me. I am not even sure somehow that it is better grown and flowered in Florida even if it is a native. AL

This is one of my favorites. Love the color and simplicity of the flowera. They look so clean and fresh. Yours is lovely Bruce. Mine bloomed well last year but no signs of spikes this year even with lots of new growth. Perhaps its not getting enough light?

Yes, this guy like light. If you are getting new growth, but no spikes, increase the light.

Fat, happy little bulbs - such a lot of them! Lovely flowers, too. More and more, I'm liking the encyclias, and these are so pretty with their clean colors.
