    Default Greenhoods

In one of the other posts I mentioned that finding an orchid is situ for me is a very special occasion.

Finding one so close to home in an area not more than 10km from the center of the city is even more exciting. In between all the roads and high rise apartments and townhouses and bungalows and train lines, is a little piece of land, a bluff, bordered by a creek and houses further above.

I usually take my dogs for a walk around here and one day I noticed that there were these plants with the leaves arranged in a circle on the ground. In all there would have been about twenty plants. I've seen similar plants in my orchid books so I kept returning every so often to have a look and see if I can make a positive ID when the flowers arrive.

Well two weeks ago, I saw the first couple of flower spikes arising from the middle of the plant.

However, last saturday, when I took my dogs for a walk in the same area, as I was heading towards the colony of plants, I noticed that along the path were more of these plants.

And a couple were already in bloom! So here you have Pterostylis nutans:-
