I am not showing you the plant 'cos you've all seen Ascdas and that kind of thing before , but the real reason is that I am rather shamed of it - a lot of black marks on the leaves. But the flowers - rather nice I think. About 2 to 2 and a half inch size.
The cross is Five Friendship x Tubtim Velvet ; a spike of about 9 - not sensational for this sort of breeding, but what can I expect when the plant looks so tatty.....

Geoff, when you see what you consider to be sub-standard leaves, how do you decide whether it's just aesthetics, or that the plant has something bad going on in it? My orchids live in my house with me, so "tatty" leaves are snipped off right away - I can't stand sitting in my reading chair and looking up occasionally, only to spot the yucky leaves and ignore the lovely blooms. Of course, that's my own particular personality disorder, I suppose - or one of them, anyway.

but Maura, if I snip off all the tatty leaves ( on this plant) it will have nothing left ! I think it doesn't appreciate being sprayed, and as it hangs in line with lots of other stuff all of which gets sprayed daily - although that will be tapered off, now that the days are shortening - it gets black spots on them.Maybe I'll hang it higher up with the bigger Vandas - which only get their aerial roots sprayed, and not ( or not so often) the leaves.

Quite nice, Geoff. I like how the colour graduallly deepens as it reaches the outer edges.

Some orchids just look awful...then again they usually have spectacular flowers. Your flower is beautiful...and would more than make up for a sick looking set of leaves. I have this huge vanda that seems to mess up every third leaf set or so. If it blooms and is as pretty as this one, I won't care.
