Hi Yvonni
Picture #1. Have alook at Rlc. Chialin Beauty.
Pic. #2 is a Dendrobium. Sorry can't Id.
hi Angela thanks for your help will check it out
It's really difficult to ID the dark lavender cattelya in the first pix but Angela could have got it right and you might also check out Blc Sangyang Ruby. As to the dendrobium- there are numerous look-alikes. And welcome back Angela; not seen your posts for some time.
Both of your orchids are really healthy looking. I hope you get the orchid identifications. Angela and Yew have made good suggestions. And Yew Sung - I agree - welcome back Angela, you have been missed!!
cheers,

The second is definitely a Dendrobium, and most likely this is a hybrid, rather than a species. The Dendrobium is persistent - not deciduous, which narrows down the huge genus a little bit.
hi Jack , can I ask what's the difference between the species and the hybrids ? I mean besides the obvious how do you know by looking what the differences are , and how does that help me toward finding the name ?
Also , what does deciduous and persistent mean in relation to this orchid
Deciduous means that the leaves fall off. Persistent means that they stay on the plant - assuming it is healthy.
