bulbos, coelogynes and epi.s ...OH MY!!!

bad weather on a long weekend drove me to the flower market... but im on a budget so i wasnt allowed to buy anything extreme...my boyfriend went with me just to make sure... i was being supervised... so i made the most of what little i allowed myself to spend... $6us...
here's what i came home with...



so i got a few p.bulbs of a bulbo & coelogyne, both of which i only have the chinese names for so its hard to pinpoint an ID...plus one of my favorite guys was doing his annual spring cleaning of his greenhouses...this means 2 big boxes of mixed orchids all overgrown and deemed unfit for sale... for 20nt dollars each (.67cents)... so i resisted and only walked away with 2 huge epi.s busting out of their pots!! in total i spent $4.75us...not bad for budget shopping!
ive never tried coelogynes before, any advice?

What a place for orchid buying on a budget in Taiwan !. Me? Just spent US $15 on petrol to go to a nursery and another US$ 90 for 8 plants - but was fortunate to get a few plants I was looking for, particularly a Paph bellatulum in bud, a blooming size Paph sukhakulii, a pink Den bracteosum and a Den Frosty Dawn x suzuki (with light orangish petals and dark red-orange lip). And I've spent all my orchid budget for the next 2 months.

Nice haul! I would love to live (or shop) in Taiwan at those prices... It looks to me you got encyclia atropurpurea/cordigera, coelogyne rochussenii and bulbo carunculatum, if the tag is true. Coelogynes are pretty easy (rochussenii is). Bright filtered light or partial shade will do (as for phals, maybe a bit brighter). They bloom seasonally.

thanks for the IDs, i understood the chinese names just getting the exact id was proving a bit tricky for me.... i drink, a lot...
i did notice on one of the coelogyne p.bulbs there were some tiny holes, one even has a single oxalis growing out of it! is there a boring insect i should be on alert for? ive got too many plants to run the risk of a bulb borer!!!

if that is indeed coelogyne rochussenii, at the price i paid...im going to wait for my boyfriend to sleep in and im heading back to the market to pick up a few more chunks...i cant wait to have a basket full of those... i was afraid coelogynes were mainly cool climate growers...knowing that this one is good for my area, im super excited! thanks so much!!

I have had no problems with boring insects on coelogyne. Maybe just a one-off incident. The plant certainly looks like rochussenii from the picture. Tall tapered at the top with 2 leaves that are rounded at the ends. If it is not rochussenii, then might be dayana/tomentosa, which has a similar habit, but often larger. Rochussenii is one of the few coelogynes that can bloom without artificial cooling in the lowlands.
