Windowsill space updat 5/2012 DIY grow tent

Well this is my setup as of the beginning of this month I have constructed a grow tent mainly because I felt like:

1) the moisture from the humidifier was struggling to keep the humidity up seems like i'm just wating water and power everyday

2)i could not even open a window in my room without worrying about the humidity escaping

Anyway I'll explain the tent is made using a matress protector the plastic is quite see through but also lightweight material. It's not fully enclosed as I have allow some places to have ventilation. There is a fan inside to support circulation and every morning I dampen down the tent inside by misting the plastic. This combined with the humidifier running.
I have been amazed at the results as before without the enclosure the humidity will read as low as 39 but now with the grow tent the humidity is up and constant 58 - 61. I will see how my orchids like the set up with winter coming I will also add a LED panel in the next month or so will do another update then. What do you all think?

Definitely looks interesting! Good job...let us know how it works for you! BUT, it's a little hard to enjoy your flowers that way, is it not? You seem to have a lot in bloom.

I've heard that extreme humidity isn't as big a deal as some would lead you to believe, as long as you have all of the other requirements right.

I compliment you on your innovation in the pursuit of growing happy, healthy, and most of all blooming orchids. As long as the plants are not staying to wet for to long, in my estimation this could work quite well. I know that someone here at the Forum grows Vandas in a 'tent situation' in his garage successfully. Hopefully he will chime on in with a opinion or advice. Here's to endless flowers. AL

I can still see a lot through the plastic i have started bringing out some that are in bloom to enjoy . The pictures doesn't seem to make it that clear. I know I shouldn't fuss too much about the humidity but with winter coming i will have a heater on in my room and I know that will make the air too dry as much as I love my orchies i don't want to be cold....

I hope he will give some advice too, I dampen down first thing in the morning right now it 17:00 and everything has dried up but humidity is still high I have a time and the fan and humidifier shuts off around evening and I let the orchies experience a cooler drier night-time ambience

Hi, Al told me to take a look at your post. We become very 'creative' when it comes to growing orchids. I used to grow my orchids under the light when I used to live in a small house. As I moved in to the current house, this small garage became the growing space for me and my partner.

I really do not have much of advise, however, I will answer any questions you might have.
