1 Epi seed pod...what do I do next?

I got some various coloured epidindrums from Angela about two months ago, give or take a week. Well the plants flowered, then some started putting out keikis which is ok, the more the merrier. But this morning I went out on my usual progress rounds and found this;

Considering that I still have a LOT to learn, this discovery got a cross between , and response. So far I've only found posts on vanda pods. I mean I'd love to see if I can get them to grow from seeds, but what options do I have? Where can go to do some reading up on this?

it looks strange, have no idea and I would strongly recommend to cut it off before it starts to spread. Could be a fungus - think I. Yes, cut it off looks insane.


Pods of Epidendra are often filled with not-viable seeds when it´s about a self-x. If it´s viable you can try to sow the seeds around the motherplant. It often cares for the correct mykorrhiza around its roots, so maybe you have good luck. Moreover in many cases Epidendra don´t require a mykorrhiza for the germination. Go on trying.

Where exactly looks like it has a fungus? How can I tell if the seeds are viable? If there are any seeds in it that is. I had white fly infestation in my area so it is possible that this plant got affected. I have no idea when the pod first appeared so if I cut it off will any usable seeds be lost?

sure, don´t cut if off but don´t be too optimistic either there could be anything viable inside the pod.
