Default White phalaenopsis in a wood basket

This phal lives outdoors in South Florida and takes a beating. The mother plant died after growing a terminal spike. It was about 10 years old. But three keikis grew off the main stem of the mother and this year all three bloomed.

What a beauty, tucker85. Please may I ask what a "terminal spike" is? Probably a dumb beginner's question!

It's not a dumb question, Sue. I didn't know what it was until it happened to my plant. On a phalaenopsis the flower spikes normally grow from the side of the main stem of the plant. But occasionally a flower spike will grow directly out of the center of the crown, where the new leaves normally grow from. When this happens, the spike will grow and bloom normally but the plant will always die within a few months. Usually one or more basal keikis will emerge around the base of the plant before it dies. On this orchid three keikis grew from the main stem when the mother plant died.
