Inducing Mutations

Does anybody know how to induce stable mutations? Any information on the topic is greatly appreciated.

Ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) is a chemical that can induce mutations in living organisms. Therefore it is dangerous to use without proper safety protocols and proper hazardous waste disposal services. Nethertheless, it does work and it is something that is relatively accessible. Only dominant phenotypic changes would be observed in the M1 generation. Recessive mutations would not be readily observable until the M2 generation. In orchids, this is a little slow due to their long generational lifespan. Also, I very large number of plants would need to be grown to find valuable mutations.

Do be careful. Anything that could induce mutations in orchids can probably do the same for any organism, including you.
