Something is eating the tips of my roots, any ideas on whom the usual suspects could be? Oh, and how do I blow it away!

slugs?
Could be but all are mounted or in hanging baskets hanging above ground.

Could you please post a photograph? It would make identification easier.![]()
My first thought would be slugs or snails, or perhaps cockroaches. Investigate after dark with a flashlight--you may see the culprits.
I was going to guess thrips but that won't give you the 'eaten' look
I've been having the same problem. Roaches, isopods, millipedes, and earwigs are my prime suspects. Not really sure what to do about it, though...
As Katherine said it could be rodents. I have had problems with mice, chipmunks, squirrels and even birds going after root tips.
Maybe rodents, there is a mouse that lives under my deck that my cats try their hardest to get to while looking through the window. I guess it could be the mouse. I will have to let the cats out to deal with him. Every now and again I will see a roach in my orchid baskets but I've only seen two in the past year. One of my schombos had all of its tips chewed off so that has to be one big and fat roach or that darn mouse. I've seen small snails on occasion that I think came with the orchids but I quickly dispatch them.
