This has been in bud for over 4 weeks maybe longer. It is no longer growing in height but I have not seen any changes on the stem. Is this normal or is it doomed?

Monica, it's for sure not doomed. Your plant looks very healthy, just give it time and keep it warm and humid. I've killed my plant, bad luck, the flowers are so beautiful.

It definetly is warm and humid living in southern louisiana. just wondering why it takes so long. I find with a lot of my orchids they start budding but unexpectedly die off. hope this won't be one of them.

I don't have this one, however...each one of those bumps may be developing buds. I have a couple plants that look similar when they are spiking out. Eventually you should see the tips sticking out of the little bumps until they peel back that thin skin spot. Usually when they bloom out like this it is slow going.

I find (maybe it is wishful observation) that if it takes a long time for the spike to bloom the flowers are usually longer lasting too. So there is a benefit to the slowness sometimes.
