IOSPE says 4-12 flowers, so perhaps this 8 flowered spike is average.
I think the flowers could be described as having a lot of character.
A species I have been trying to establish for some years - the flowers are more than 3 inch high, and quite long lived ; some fragrance, although its not one that I either like or dislike, a bit faint in fact.
The problem here is that plants come from South America via Germany ( too expensive with our nonsense version of CITES for anyone to import direct), so plants have been packed in Ecuador, or wherever, wrapped up with moss in paper, and I get to unwrap maybe 6 or 8 weeks later , by which time its likely the leaves will fall off and the bulbs rot. I did manage it this time ! So maybe now it will grow away and do better in future. I have it in S/H but using quite large baked clay pebbles as the media, to keep a lot of air around the roots.
A pity the flowers don't open a bit flatter - this is quite normal as you see here.
