Which Orchids good for apartment?

Hi everyone,

I know I have been asking these questions already but always about a specific orchid, now I would like to ask this question concerning all orchids in general. Which orchids are good for me to grow in my apartment. Its got an easter exposure, has bright light the whole day, and plenty of lights all night.
The humidity get pretty low in the winter, but I heard this can be fixed by wiping the leaves with a wet cloth, and a tray of water underneat, and misting, which I do anyway.
The temps stay around 70-80 all winter, with the occasional 60 degrees when the building forgets that 40 degrees outside is cold. And in the summer, the three AC's come on when the temps reach 80. I guess that bring the temp down to 70. Im not sure.
I was considering a Phalaenopsis for sure. I also would like to hear your opinion on Vandas, and Catts. I'm going to the NYC orchid show this Sunday, so if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. This will be my first orchid show, and after all this is the first year I've been seriously interested in orchids. I used to think they were way too hard to keep alive.

A couple of phals should be great. Catts and Vandas are the biggest light hogs, and easterly facing windows may not be enough. I grow my catts in an east facing window, but they are also under grow lights... How about a couple paphs??

I agree with Diane on the choices , But it is not a good idea for the plants to have light at night some bloom on a long day schedule and some on a short day , if they recieve light all night and are a short day bloomer they can try too bloom on inmature growths .
For humidity one of the ultra sonic foggers work well ( during the day )if they are not to close to the plant , don't want them staying wet . 60 at night is fine the Temp. shift is good for them .
East is my favorite light they should do well there . Gin

Ok, I will stay my hand away from picking up a pretty vanda,
and I will fill my apartment with phals instead. Are there any blue phals??

Sorry ladies, Pahps and the like just don't rock my boat. But then again, I havent seen any up close and personall yet.

There are some that are a lovely purple with blue overtones, but I've never seen a truly blue phal.

There is one called Gulfstream Blue , but I would want to see it to believe It .Also costs lots of $$$$$$ . Gin

Oncidiums and most of the intergenerics would also work well. They can have spectacular blooms and are a nice switch from Phals and Paphs.

I live in an east facing apartment and here is what I found:
1. Lots of success with Bulbophyllum using extra screen for shade.
2. I can get the Catts. and Pot. to bloom but the aren't as (lush), they tend to get twisted leaves.
3. Dends. work great.
4. My Vanda hasn't bloomed but my Rhys are doing great.
5. Phals work good if you keep them shade by putting theCatts in front of them.
I have 2 fans set up on my patio and a mister system just to give you some ideas.
