looks like a bit of mutation in the flower. Happens sometimes, known here as 'Singular Pelorism', although sometimes it can look nothing like traditional pelorism. Must be a genetic cross-over somewhere. Otherwise, the only other thing that i could think of, is that it is virused-some of the virused plants at work display similar symptoms, although the plants are affected too.

Jordan, how are the plants affected with the virus? What are the indications. I have a leaf that is growing on the cutting off this orchid, that is as the photo shows?

I haven't noticed any problems like this with my other 150 orchids in the shadehouse.

WOW! I've never seen anything like this before! Annette, you might possibly have a virus. Hope not....Betty

Its irritating, isn't it? Makes you feel you are not adequately looking after them. I have a similar mutation thing going on with my Oncidium Flexosum. Every second leaf of the Pseudobulb is crinkly, all other ones are fine. I read about it, it usually happens if the plant is dehydrated but in my case its just the mutation!

Alex, the leaf isn't off the plant with the flower, it is another part of the original, potted off 12 months ago.

Yep you can test it but 90 % sure it is virus. With just the flower picture, I wouldn't have been so sure as sudden temperature differences can cause cattleya flowers to have such odd growths or even symptoms like color break (but always darker colored streaks never white ones) but the necrosis in the young growth is very positive for Odontoglossum Ringspot Virus. Your plant was possibly infected before or during the division.

This is the new flower. No sign of previous mutational bumps. I put it down to a Hydrophonic fertilizer I was trying. Obviously not a virus, but hormonal problem.Name: rsz_2img_0730.jpg
