Default Dends, Mem. John Purvis & Ap My An

The same friend from whom I got the Gct brought these 2 plants into a Spring Show last year to sell. I took one look & bought them straight away.

#1. Den. Memoria John Purvis 'Fyans' had about 1/2 the number of flowers on each of the 2 spikes it had at the time & the flowers were about double the size these are. (haven't measured). The spike in the pic doesn't carry the greatest amount of flowers either. Heavy Den. kingianum influence but I really like it. Has a heap of spikes & better canes. I'll post it again when fully open.

#2. Den. Ap My An 'HG' I bought instantly because of the colour (not really showing in pic) but also the flower shape & quality. Again this plant has flowered better in spike & flower count with the flower size about the same. This flower has only just opened so it will increase in size also.

Yours first pic reminds me very much of D. Ellen - a lovely hybrid, one of mhy favourite Aussies.
We used to get one or two Australian traders visiting UK for orchid shows - way back, but have not seen one for many years. Something to do with their draconian rules about plant importation, meaning that if they brought plants to Europe and did not sell them, they had to give them away bacsuse they were not allowed to take them back into Australia. Such a pity, because their breeding especially of Dendroboiums has produced some splendid stuff which we rarely get a chance to see.
There is one enterprising US dealer who comes to some of the major UK shows, often brings good paph crosses and also catasetums, who offered a list of Dendrobium seedlings last year - I bought some - they seemed to have originated from a nursery in Hawaii. Took a long time to get established for me , but now producing really good looking canes - these are basically kingianum and allied species hybrids, and one has a cane thicker than my thumb and already a foot high, started in midsummer ( 2 or 3 months ago) - and I am really looking forward to seeing flowers.

Australia is known for strict import rules but I didn't know about such rules before. Just hope that my Australian wish list will be accomplished someday.
