We were having our evening cocktails on the lanai and had a visitor on the patio, he wanted a Martini but we were out of vermouth.

Amazing! How did you manage to take the pic without scaring him off? I love your bamboo fountain.

Cin, it seems, wears her camera around her neck!
He seems small. I'll bet he's a young one. They're pretty brazen at my folks, as well. They have a pond just off the house in the back, and then marshland to the right of the house, so they get all sorts of herons, egrets and shore birds.
Show us the rat!!!

I thought that the camera makes for a nice necklace,LOL.
Actually the heron is rather large adult, he just looks small in that picture, He is also starting to get his breeding plumage at the base of his neck. They start building nests in the pine trees around this time of the year. Feeding the herons is discouraged but if you do the silly birds have been known to peck holes in your screens if you don't produce their dinner.

That's one of the coolest things I've seen in awhile, nice work!
Beautiful tropical picture! Your gardens are so lush; maybe the heron was a lush too? heehee.
