Butterfly Orchid

I'm new at this but my friend introduced me to the pleasure of growing orchids. He told me about a black orchid. I've never seen one and cannot find one anywhere on the internet. He calls it the Butterfly. Can you please help me cause I would really love to see a black orchid. I didn't know there was such a thing.

I saw a black orchid featured on the back cover of the Orchid Digest Magazine - Jan, Feb, March 2005 issue. The orchid was named after the guy who made it and flowered it. It is called Fredclarkeara. Here is a photo:

Yes, I was blown away to see such a black orchid. Julie, the full name I should have posted in the post is Fdc. After Dark 'Black is Black' AM/AOS. The cross is made from Mo. Painted Desert 'Sunset Orchids' HCC/AOS x Ctsm. Donna Wise 'Kathleen' Am/AOS. Charles Rowden took the photograph for Orchid Digest.

When I read your post, I thought you meant a phal called "Black Butterfly." It isn't nearly as black as BD's, but I love it!
