The lower spray is Phal Taiwan Glory, a lovely harlequin I picked up this winter. I already had a harlequin (Phal Ever-Spring Fairy, for which photos are posted here somewhere) but it always bloomed with cupped flowers and the blossums weren't well spaced. It drove me crazy, so I sold it when i got this one.
The upper spray is, of course, Phal Baldan's Kaleidoscope. A trusty war horse every collection should own. The plant is huge, and the flowers are a full 4" across! Last year it bloomed from Feb to Aug, and I finally cut the spike, even though it would have chugged on. It initially opened with 8 blooms, then later it put out another 13 - it's a keeper!

Very nice too! I'm secretly very pleased to see the Baldan's Kaleidoscope being praised. (Ok not so secret now) as it was one of the three Phals I bought at the orchid show I went to. I saw it and fell in love. I will look forward to it growing up to be like yours!
Very nice!! I used to have a Baldens Kaleidescope but when it bloomed it ended up being peloric. I found it a new home. Here is a pic of what it looked like

My B.K. just opened its first bloom a few days ago---it was one of my first too---and still one of my favs! Nice sprays McJulie!
And Ron, Errr, I guess a kaleidescope does look different depending on which way you turn it----yikes!
Pretty blooms, Julie and your shot is wonderful.

Thanks, all! And Ron...you just can't warm them up reliably in the microwave!

your blooms look so perfect julie!
*Sigh* my Baldens croaked some time ago..
Those are very beautiful. I have the "old war horse" as well -- and it never fails to bloom spectacularly. I have a weakness for harlequin phals as well -- nothing like red splotches . . .![]()
