Please Idenify This Growth

I have had catts only since last summer and have not seen any bloom so far. Is any of this on my Blc Star Of Bethlehem 'Peace' x Blc Lake Murray 'Mendenhall' AM signs of bloom? I only know the roots This is a long name for this Catt. Do I always refer to it this way? Thanks

Looks like you have new growth on your cattleya in the photo. Just to the left of the roots is the most prominent new growth. This will continue to grow and finally bloom for you. Cattleyas will only bloom from their new growth.

Regarding the name: Yes. Until the cross is named, you would use the full name when referring to that particular orchid. You can check out the RHS website to see if your orchid has been officially named. Go to our LINKS FORUM and choose number 4. There are other great links on that page too regarding cattleyas.

Thanks, Bruce. I am glad to here that they bloom from new growth. I guess getting my Cattleyas late last summer, it is ok that I didn't get flowers.
