Question Bagged Box Plant Misleading Epi Mabel Kanda

Okay, my local boxstore sells bagged orchids for great prices. I've gotten some good buys there including an Encyclia Alata last spring that still hasn't bloomed but has great growth. I just picked up a bag with an image and name of Epidendrum Mabel Kanda. Which is a plant that I've been looking for and was excited to find for less than 12 bucks, but after getting home and unwrapping the orchid with two new growths I've discovered a tag claiming that it's really a cross between Epi. Mabel Kanda 'MIYAO' x Epi. Randianum!!! Talk about bait and switch. I can't find any pictures of this cross and now wonder what I'm getting... Does anyone have any history on this cross? What's the bloom look like? Unfortunately, you can't get into the bag until you buy the plant but I could still return it...anybody with experience on this? Is it a keeper or a dumper?

And while we're at it. Has anyone's Alata bloomed yet? Mine grew and incredible new PB last summer so I'm expecting great things but so far, no spike.

Epi randianum is another term for Epi. atropurpureum var. randianum or randii

Here is a pic of randii

I posted a pic of Epicyclia Mabel Kanda earlier today.

I would say this cross should be nice. Brown or brown and green petals and sepals, a pink to pink and white striped lip.

alata blooms later in the season for me. Maybe June.

I checked today...my alata has a spike and should bloom for June 1 or so. The p-bulb and growths are pretty large on this species. I can't seem to bloom my cordigera and my cordigera alba. Do you have this species and when does it bloom for you?

Being a northern grower, sometimes you southerners are ahead of me by a couple of weeks with blooming.

That sounds like an interesting cross! Laurent, do you have this one in your collection? Do you have a pic of it?

I'm kind of on an encyclia-fever
Yeah!!! Someone else has the fever too!

Dallasgarden, if you are looking for a Epicyclia Mabel Kanda x Encyclia Cordigera PM me because I can tell you where I purchased mine. It should look like the one Ron posted a pic of with the green and pink bloom. Sometimes they call it Epidendrum Mabel Kanda or Encyclia Mabel Kanda, but I believe they are all the same thing.

I have a pic of the plant I purchased in the "not blooming" section. It comes in a 4" pot, but I wanted it mounted on cork.

I also have an Encyclia profusa that is a cross with a Sophronitis cinnabarina and the grower believes the blooms will be the shape of the profusa but the bright orange/red of the cinnabarina.

Lambert, posting pics of orange/red encyclias is only going to make my obsession worse! LOL
