I had a PM request to post some updated photos of the new greenhouse, now that it is all assembled, plants in place shade cloth up etc. So, here it is. I must add--that I could live out there! It is just wonderful--so thank you for letting me share the joy. Here's the view from the outside.
The greenhouse is attached to the house by double, glass french doors. So here's the view looking from the breakfast nook into the greenhouse. (And sorry, it is partly cloudy today, so pictures may look a little dark)
The glass in the roof of the greenhouse has a coating on it to reduce the amount of light that comes in--very handy for keeping the temperature down--so thus far anyway, I have only needed shade cloth over my phals. The vandas and catts etc do just fine in the 5000-6000fc that come through the ceiling. I have more shade cloth, so if in the late summer I need it, I'll put some up. I check the fc's fairly regularly just so nothing gets burned.
The shade cloth is 50%--and I rigged it up similar to curtains. I hemmed the sides and doubled the top over for strength. Then I put up steel electrical conduit with curtain rod hardware and voila--easily movable shade cloth. So far so good.
And so far at least, the orchids seem very happy in their new home. It has actually surprised me how much more root and plant growth I've already seen this spring.
