    Exclamation blc

so what does the blc short for?
are they difficult to grow? The one I am looking at is
    Tainan Gold 'Canary'

Would this be okay for a newbie?

Yep. A Cattleya alliance plant. They are not difficult to grow.

BLC stands for Brassolaeliocattleya...an intergeneric cross of Brassavola, Laelia, and Cattleya. Tainan Gold is a beautiful plant.

You can look up any genus abbreviation in the Orchid Genus List located in the Orchid Forum Navigation box on the top left had corner of the Forum Home page.

Cattleya types, as said above are great for a new grower. They have been hybridized to be easier to grow over the years. Dendrobiums and phalaenopsis types are also wonderfully easy and bloom up to 3 or 4 mo's at a time whereas many catts only last a few weeks. I love the phals myself.....over time you will find your favorites. Can't wait to see the pics....golden catts just glow in the sun and yours is an especially nice one, Clint is right.
    Good Luck

yes, time! but then there is the problem of just to many choices and not enough room for everything. The only thing that saves me is the fact that the local orchid nursery is by appt only except around mother's day ( oh, and I think they open wine barrels around that time too)
