Spike or Another huge plant coming

Hello Everybody;
I finally got a bump on the side of the Gram. Elegans...but when it came out instead of having the rounded head of a flower spike it looks an awfully lot like another little p-bulb with it's sharp pointed looking top. I'm gonna really be confused if this is a plant, I thought this was supposed to go into dormancy after it grew leaves and bloomed. I think it skipped the blooming, and dormant sections and went directly to next springs new growth!
The uranium out back must be working overtime again?? lol Check out the new growth coming off my favorite Blue Madonna. Florida does such interesting things to plants...this humidity seems to be the thing they love. Unfortunately for us humans....it doesn't have the same fun effect.

My 'Blue Madonna' growth...it looks like there are teeth across the top when you look at it. I'm not sure that shows up in the pic's quite as well as I'd wanted. The camera is giving me fits lately....even with a new battery.





Okay, so what do you all think about the Gram's bump?? Spike or P-bulb?? And if p-bulb....How did it do that now?? I thought it's supposed to go dormant?? What do I do with a weirdo gram trying to grow now? Maybe it's confused hanging out with all these catt's and den's!

It does look like new growth to me, but I'm not 100% sure.

Maybe it doesn't want to go dormant because Florida is so nice and warm and steamy I have a couple of Cycnoches that only go dormant for like a week after they bloom before new growth shoots up.

Warm and steamy....that most definitely fits todays weather. I just came in from topping off the canna's and my t-shirt feels like it didn't get dried all the way in the dryer. I often refer to "outside" as the "sauna". Don't need a built-in one down here, just go work in the yard!

That would make me awfully *bleepin'* happy! I have been mixing their food myself lately and giving it to them in every form I could come up with along with pushing their light levels to the max....I figured they'd either bloom or die. Either way, I was going to get them to do something! lol Thanks Bruce

Spring? I have to baby a spike until spring??!! Well now, that doesn't bode well for the little fella! lol I'll do my best not to do something stupid to it in the meantime.....(try being the important word there!)....Spring? I seriously hope someone's pulling my leg...

I have a Elegans as well and a similar quandry with a growth. Mine looked a lot like yours and turned out to be a new growth. From what I've learned, spikes originate from the base of the bulb, not the leaf crotch and don't have a pointy lead. They also, are produced in the summer. Keep us updated.

I'm guessing its a new growth...but I hope I'm wrong!! I agree with Clint about the dormancy thing...since you guys are so warm down there, I betcha it doesn't really need to go into dormancy, or its so actively growing that it just might not go into dormancy! I think (from what I can remember) dormancy is caused by changes in temperature in conjunction with changes in night length, so although your days may be getting shorter, it may just be warm enough there to keep it going Do let us know what it is when it gets a bit bigger, can't wait to see it bloom!!
