"Baby" phal

Hi,
I have a white phal which was rescued from my friends house almost 2 years ago. Since than it bloom twice and flowers had 5.5 diameter. Just recently I've noticed a new growth at the base of a plant. I'm not sure if it is located at the base or on the exposed root. I was careful inspecting the plant but could not find out where "baby orchid" really comes from.
Please advise what to do. Let it grow or separate (how?) without damaging the plant.

That is what you call a basal keikei. It is attached to the parent plant just under the mix. When you get ready to repot you can separate them or leave them together. You use a sharp steralized knive to cut between the two plants, it won't hurt either of them. Just keep the cut dry until it scabs or seals up before watering so no bacteria enters the fresh cut.

Yes. I use pruning seal (the black stuff in a spray can) to seal cuts I make during dividing. Works like a charm.

Alternatively, you could leave it in the same pot and get additional blooming spikes. Best of luck to you.
