IKE: It turns out 13 is my lucky number

We finally got power back yesterday, on day 13 after IKE. My neighbor called me at work to inform me the good news. My first reaction was "I need to go home to start laundry". I almost cried when I got the first dried load out and feel the softness of the towels.

We had two trees fell on the house and caused both roof and water damage to the house. But we are safe. The rest of it we just have to deal with it.

Glad to hear you are safe --and that you have clean laundry. My sister lives in the Houston area as well, and ti sounds like it has been an adventure all around.

Glad that you are home and safe with clean laundry. It is amazing how the little things, lost are the ones we appreciate the most when they are returned.

I'm so glad you are back at home and life can start to return to normal. That hurricane caused such extensive damage. DH is in Houston right now inspecting damaged properties--he's a structural engineer.

Those of us in this area, west of Tampa, watched in shock as the hurricane headed for Galveston. In our minds we were wondering what would have happened if it hit here. I now have a much better front window, and am re-evaluating the idea that it will "never" flood here. We really feel for all of you that got hit by the storm and hope that Tampa Bay and it's neighborhoods so easily flooded as Gustav went by (200 miles away), won't see a storm like that come here.
It's good to hear some things are getting back to normal there. And we are very glad to have you back!

Thank you! It's good to be back and see everyone's blooming orchids.

As bad as IKE had done to the Greater Houston area, we are blessed with the weather after IKE. Sunshine most of days, only a couple of days reached 90. So it wasn't too bad to sleep through the night without AC. Since we had a hole on my roof and ceiling, I feel so lucky that we didn't have rain. We just had people fixed the roof today. What a relief!

My orchids are doing wellellow Bird has two spikes, Sharry Baby started the second spike while I am anxiously waiting for the first spike to bloom.

So sorry about all the damage Liz, glad the roof is fixed. At least you and yours are safe! That's the most important thing.
