Pretty, Gin. We have a Camellia that is planted in the yard here. It blooms, but the buds always look terrible. Any secrets to make it look better. The bush is very healthy and is as old as the house. I trim it with the rest of the hedges around the house. It stands about 5 feet tall. I fertilize it along with the other hedges.
Cheers,

That is so pretty...I've just got to figure out how to get a greenhouse attached to this house somewhere!! I want to have my plants do better in the winter....that is so pretty! I can almost smell it from here...

I bet the buds are damaged by the weather , to cold or wet . I had some of that before moving it into the green house in warmer Temps .Gin
Wow, that is beautiful Gin! I don't think I've ever seen one of those before.
In greece it is a common secret to keep camelias out of the bitter northern wind and always potted in chestnut-forest soil, in a big iron container (ie barrel) to meet the plant's increased needs of iron.
I love camellias. They are notoriously hard to grow here.
This one came from a big box store it was a gift a couple of years ago . Glad you like it![]()
I like camellias too. When we lived in Tallahassee, FL, they were everywhere in the park and garden. So when we moved to Houston and bought house, camellia was the first thing for me to put in the yard. It didn't even make itI love camellias. They are notoriously hard to grow here.![]()
