Paph spike question

What's the little green thing at the bottom of the 'sheath' on this spike. The flower fell off a couple of days ago but I am scared to cut the spike because there is this green thing. Does anyone know what this is and if I can hope for anything special with this plant and spike?

Could it be a sequential bloomer? If so, it should start looking recognizably like a developing bud in the near future. At any rate, don't be in too much of a hurry to cut!

This plant is not a sequential bloomer. And if it was a sequential bloomer you would know if the was something to come since the next bud would have already formed before the bloom fell off.
It should be safe to cut the spike off since nothing more should develop, or just let it dry and snap it off.

The green part is meristematic tissue that could have made a second bloom. You would have known there was a second bud while the spike was developing though

I know hardly anything about paphs but i'm wondering if this growth was there before or if it is new. If it were a new growth, I wonder if it could be a keiki. In either event, I usually leave the spike intact until it turns brown and dries up, i'm always hopeful for a keiki.

I would leave it too, at least until it dries up...orchids do crazy things and have been known to defy their species on occasion!!
