Catt- Why does this happened?

Hi everyone!

These two are baby catts and if you notice at the first pic the new growth turned to a very intense purple, nearly black. The second pic shows that the new growth on the other is going for the same path. So, my question is what em I doing wrong?

I can't see the first photo very well.

I can see the second growth though. It looks fine. It turns red to protect is tender tissues from stong light, which is normal. The red pigment reflects red light.

anthrocyanins wasn't it? Something like that - anyways, yes, mine do this too, and I'm happy when I see the red bc its means they are GROWING HAPPILY ALONG!! Usually you'll see it more on plants that have more pigment in the blooms, like red or orange catts, things like that.

In the first pic...the black new growth needs to be checked to see if it is squishy. If it is, cut it off back to where there is solid healthy growth and cut with a sterile sharp blade. Then use cinnamon to treat the area around where the black thing was. That sort of rot can really ruin your day when the blackened new growth ends up rotting the surrounding plant. Be careful when you water to keep all moisture away from new growths as they rot very easily. Your red one is fine....just be careful when watering. I keep old used paper towels in a box to get the water drops from the crowns of new growths. Tear the paper towels and twist and they will go into the narrowest of places and keep your new growths nice and dry and healthy.
