Care for baby orchids -Blc George King 'Serendipity'

I repotted one of my 2 compots today. This is my first time ever dealing with such small plants, and I was really careful. I potted 2 plants in each 2" pot, and 2 biggest ones into 3" clay pot. Other tiny little ones ended up in a S/H.

Do I need to water them more often since they are so small? Should I fertilize them now? I am keeping them inside on the windowsill for now.

I ran out small pot, so I am leaving the other compot (Blc Yen Corona 'Green Genii') alone until later...

Yes. Small as these are, water more frequently. I would hold off on any fertilizer for about two weeks while these guys get used to their new environment.

They look very healthy, how long ago did you deflask them?
I have 4 months old seedlings, this was my first time deflasking so I am curious about your experience.

I bought compots last Friday. If this works out, I will try deflasking next time...

Compots are the way to go. Deflasking is a drastic change for the little ones. Going from compot to individual pots is a bit easier - especially if you grow the compots in your grow area and conditions for awhile. These look really healthy. Good luck!

Hi, I got an orchid yesterday, i have had at least 5-7 in the past. I just wanted to know how you would aquire the seeds, i have never germinated an orchid but i would like to at least try this once. And your baby orchids look extremely healthy.

I am hoping that you planted when you saw new roots. If new roots were not already forming, then I am going to suggest that if you don't have a very humid environment that you take the extraordinary step of placing these plants in their new pots into a deep covered transparent storage tub or one of those tubs used to sell about a pound or two of mixed spring greens at the supermarkets, replace the lid, and give them just slightly less light than you usually would for a Cattleya until you see the new roots at least an inch long. If the plants in the other compot don't yet show new roots, then hold off on the transplanting them up into more space until you see those roots. With the same care in handling as you showed the first plants, they should do just fine without the special environment. I have used these tubs for plants at the plug stage and for just out of the flask, with fine results in drier environments, for these tubs maintain a very humid growth environment. Also, I water plants in these tubs with a foliar spray, using about 1/8 strength fertilizer that contains calcium (I prefer to use Calcium nitrate in rainwater with a trace of my so-called complete orchid foods, but you could use distilled or other high quality water for this, with whatever complete food you have been using. I can't say more about that, for I don't know what is the makeup of your water.). Flush out salts only every couple of months, because you won't need to spray these very often in these tubs. Just wet the lower sides of the leaves fully, such that a bit runs down to the roots and potting medium, and you shouldn't have trouble with a medium that is too wet. If you are using one of those synthetic media, such as the ceramic balls, or are using mostly cinder rock or perlite, then there is even less to worry about. If your roots were already coming along well, then there is no need for the extraordinary steps, for your picture shows some very nice looking seedlings. Best of luck.
