Maxillaria Variabilis question, please

Hi,
A friend sent a division of her little Maxillaria Variabilis 'Grace' to me and with it enclosed growing instructions, as well. I'm unclear as to watering and she's out of town, or else I would just ask her.

If some of you who have had success with this orchid can help me, I would very much appreciate it. If you have other comments and/or advice for me, I would appreciate any other help, also.

Ron-NY grows this plant (Max Variabilis 1, Max Variabilis 2), so he will probably be able to help. What I found with my one Max is that it needs a bit higher light levels than say an oncidium. I water and feed on a regular schedule letting it dry almost completely out before watering again. My little Max. tenuifolia put out a bloom this year for the first time. Good luck with your

my Maxillaria variabilis is mounted on Cork and must be watering every day. Bright light and fertilizer in the growing season.
When your´s is potted ,I can´t say how often you must watering .
And it ´s necessary what a substrate and drainage you use .Take a transparent pot and you can controlling the roots .
For a better aeration you can piercing the pot round and round with a drill .

I have mine growing in treefern fiber. Get's watered 2X per week, the roots get plenty of air yet moisture as well. I do grow it fairly bright
