    Beautiful orchid, and great photography!!

I'm always a sucker for the dark background when photographing plants and flowers.

I like it too; however, that is hard to do in the farm.

I know exactly what you mean, and I frequently don't achieve it. I think I'm going to wind up painting the inside of a box black, and use that. LOL Sometimes, even the flash doesn't accomplish it.

I brought a two-meter wide stretch of black corduroy there to serve as background. However, it has proven cumbersome to use in the "wild"...Many of the plants grow in the tree trunks and branches, and I had resigned in the trade off between ideal growing area vs. ideal photo-op area.

as counterpoint to how far and cumbersome it is to travel to Europe from where I am...

One the way home to Manila I was checking in for my Amsterdam connection in Paris, and the guy behind the counter asked me, how far is Manila from Paris? I told him, "Thirteen hours and fifty minutes, and I saw six movies". He laughed so hard.

Sounds like NY to Hawaii. I swore I'd never do that again without stopping to visit in California. At least that breaks up the trip about half way.
