Phal Basal Keikis (Multiple) Remove?

Here is the pic that was taken 2 weeks ago. The plant/keiki's have since gotten bigger! I thought I had 3 keiki's, but TODAY when I repotted this plant into Hydroton, I found out it has a FOURTH keiki under the growing medium (and it's growing upside down--towards the bottom of the pot)

Anyway, I want to be able to remove these SOME day. After reading other posts, articles, etc, I know that I have to wait for roots to sprout. My reasoning for posting this question is, when they DO come out...how will I go about removing these? Any ideas?

I should also mention that I used a keiki hormone. I only placed ONE drop DIRECTLY on the cut immediately after cutting the flower stem (scissors in one hand, product on the other). I thought I would get one keiki, but FOUR? The mom plant is doing super and her roots have never been thicker!!

PS. Ignore the black dots on the leaves. I mark my phals with waterpens so I can actually SEE the growth. I like coming home and looking to see how much the dots have "moved away" from each other

If you want to root your keikis quickly, you can use another product the same company sells for rooting the keikis. I never used either of them, but if one works so well, the other is bound too. The option is to spray your plant with 100 ppm IAA or NAA, both are auxins that will promote root development. Also consider 100 ppm Vitamin B complex (Vit B1 promotes root growth).

Thanks for the info! I'll have to give that a try. Do you happen to know how I would go about and detaching these from the Mother plant?

After the keikis have developed good roots a gentle twist should break them off.

That is just craziness! Wait until the keiki roots are 2-3" and that each plantlet has at least 2-3 of these. Then do what John suggested.

Yes once it develops roots you could snip it off, or use a sterile sharp knife to cut the out. If you are patient enough, after a while the mother plant will produce roots above the keikis, you could then simply cut away the mother plant and then the 4 kekis can be separated. This is what I did with a Doritis in the spring.

Hi Jake, I'm quite amazed by your experience, I've never been successful with keikis before, and I'm quite surprised by the way the keikis are coming from the mother plant instead of developing on the flower spike? Is it the short cut flower spike seen in the picture that you put the hormone onto? Anyway, you're the lucky father of four I can Say!
