slc vs blc and humidity

I received an Slc Tutankamen as a belated Christmas gift from a family member (Louis, I guess this means I MUST try the catts now!!) and wondered if I'm going to have to do something different and dramatic with my growing area (aka LIVING ROOM) to rebloom this baby.

I read a personal website of someone who said in their experience, Slc's require higher and more constant humidity to bloom than do Blc's. Does anyone here have experience with this kind of difference?

pure sophronitis may require higher humidity. fascinating articles on how some of the japanese sophronitis growers only water at night to simulate natural conditions...

however, the VAST majority of slc will grow under regular catt culture. most slc's are not full-size standard catts, and will perhaps appreciate less light than the latter (although light should always be strong/indirect, even for slc). catt hybrids can tolerate quite low humidity and still do well.

I totally agree. RSJ, here, we grow both exactly the same way, with very good results.

Well this is good news! Thank you very much. This one is in bud on two pb's and I can't wait until they open!

My family fed my orchid addiction well over the holidays, and in the course of three weeks I now own 4 cattleya alliance hybrids to learn anew on. Two that should have orange/red blooms and superb fragrance, but which blasted their little buds in the bare-root shipping process, and this new Slc which pix on the web show as very rich red but may or may not have fragrance.
