Project #1--Mounting orchid

Hey guys, this is one of my projects ya'll have inspired. Remember when I said I had this Oncidium that was just climbing right out of the pot? Well, here it is now that I've finally found a piece of driftwood with the right slope to mount it on.

This is my very first mount. I started with a bed of high grade spagnum moss underneath the entire root system and the roped it around several times with fishing line. I plan on misting it every day and dunking it once to twice a week. What do ya'll think?

Very nice, I am also planning to mount mine, but here, in this season I must spray it everyday and in the next months, at least two times by day. congrats.

Derek, looks great. I found that the more mounted plants I had - the easier it was to take care of them. With just one I was always forgetting to mist and soak but now I mist my mounts every day and soak every week. I do not have that many (yet), maybe a dozen but that will change I am sure. I am mounting my Masd. and they are really surprising me how well they are doing. My fingers, however, are not made for small work and I can not work the fish line so I am confined to using twist ties for plants, they are green and they come in a long spool and they are much easier for my paws to work.

looks perfect to me, and a nice piece of driftwood!
its always handy, having some wood and moss lying around, i learned that lesson.

It looks good.
One thing to keep in mind are the old roots.
Since you moved the plant from one culture to another, some of the roots might not be able to adapt and the plant will discard them.
When you see dying roots, clean them up as soon as you can to make room for the new roots.
The new roots will have an easier time growing if they are not being strangled by old, dead roots.
