Cycnodes wine delight 'jem' and Cycnoches lehmanii. The wine delight smells like cherries while the lehmannii has a strange, medicinal smell. It's interesting that lehmannii is a parent of the wine delight hybrid (Cyc lehmannii x Morm. sinuata). They seem to have little in common in relation to their flowers.

Brandon...very nice! The difference in flower morphology between your 2 spikes is greater because the Cycnodes Wine Delight is a female flower and the Cycnoches lehmanii a male flower. The other main difference is that the other parent of wine delight is Mormodes sinuata.
Cycnoches are unusual in that they produce male, female or hermaphroditic flowers. Did you trigger a spring loaded pollina on the lehmanii?

Those red blooms are stunning, it is also very nice to see the whole plant.

The red is spectacular! Nice growing. Totally unknown to me. Where do they originate from and are they considered Cymbidiums, i.e. need cool weater to flower like that?

I actually did trigger a pollina and it stuck on my hand rather stubbornly.

Michael - these are Catasetinae (not related to cymbidium) and are native to central and south America. I posted what I know in reply to the other thread on Wine delight.
