C skinneri

i went to a nursery to buy phal. bellina but ended up with C. skinneri
i have never tried C befor, you can see in the photos (sorry for the low qualitiy but i have a very simple digital pocket camera) some of the leaves are yellowish.
is it due to over watering or is it due to high levels of fertilize or just to much exposure to the sun in some time of the plant life.
the plant is in a clay pot why do C usually grown in clay pot?
the media is a mix of bark and charcoal, in the bottom of the pot there are packging peanuts and 1 drainhole, and on the media surface there are small volcanic stones.
I googled for photos of the C. skinneri and saw that mine i quite pale and color is fade, does to much sunlight fade the bloom colors?

Sorry but it's not C. skinneri. It's a Catt. hybrid with a lot of B. glauca in it. Very pretty though!

From what I have heard recently, Clay pots are good for catts, not to sure on the why though. I have kept mine in direct summer florida sun and it still loved it, just needed a little more water, so I don't think too much sun would be the problem. My guess would be over-watering, but maybe because I don't know alot about fertilizers.

I agree with SMWBOXER, this is not a skinneri, which has narrower puesdobulbs and the leaves bend horizontally, turns out to be a beautiful plant without the flowers. I would agree that it has Brassia glauca which is white creamy color and the burgandy deep in the lip. This plant will need a lot of sun and very good drainage. It maybe over potted and too deep, be sure the rhizomes are above the media.
It's a beautiful flower, good luck with it.

anyway i emailed the nursery in italy pictures so they could ID it for me
since i was looking for a phal and it was so tiny i decided to tkae somting else, so i took this orchid, so i'm not upset cause i was looking for c. skinneri, but if was a case i was looking for c. skinneri and was given somthing else, it would have upset me, than again, if you are looking for a botanic specie you probely have a good knowladge of how it look like

I agree it's not C skinneri. The yellow leaves could be due to too much sun or fertiliser build-up in the clay pot. From the look of the old rootmarks on the pot this must be a recycled clay pot and they tend to retain old fertiliser salts : the salts being absorbed into the pores of the claypot as moisture evaporates from the clay pot.
Also I think the p-bulbs are planted too deep into the media.

well i took the plant from it's pot, i found a worm inside and the roots doesn't look good i think, well i never tried a cattleya befor or a hybrid of it, so i have no clue how should healthy cattleya roots should look like, also what is the black spot the i draw a red arrow pointing to it.

Now that the cattleya is out of that clay pot, you should repot it correctly in a much smaller, more constricted pot. (Clay is fine and so would be plastic - just make sure both drain easily).

The black spot looks you identify with the arrow will need to be cleaned and sealed with pruning seal. Looks like a bug chewed on the p-bulb.

Most of the leaves have a healthy color. The very light ones to me appear to be caused by overwatering. Cattleyas like to dry out between being watered. Too much water doesn't allow for air to get to the roots and looking at the roots, it is evident that rot has taken its toll on this cattleya hybrid. Good news is that there are still plenty of roots for this one to turn around. Pot it correctly and water it only when it is completely dry.
