Guaricattonia Starrlyn

My Guaricattonia Starrlyn 'Butterfly' (Ctna Capri x Grt Why Not) is in bloom now. Last month in the post by Hoanglong re Otaara Hwa Yuan Bay I lamented the fact that my Hwa Yuan Bay Lc Hsin Ying Skies blasted all the buds before they could open, but this month I have been rewarded with blooms from 3 other small catts and Gct Starrlyn is one of them in full bloom right now. When I bought it 4 years ago it was categorised as a Cattleytonia but now it is a Guaricattonia.

Oh, those are cute blooms. I like the little clustered blooms like this. Great photos too.

Very nice blooms. I'm not familiar with this genera but they sure look like a mix between dendro. and cattleya

Guaricattonia is actually a tri-generic cross of Broughtonia x Cattelya x Guarianthe all of the cattelya alliance. Guarianthe was once categorised as cattelya but taxonomists have now categorised certain cattelyas as guarianthe.

I have liked these for awhile...are they difficult to grow?

@Connie: Not more difficult than the rest of the cattelya tribe. The problem I have encountered here is with the high temperatures (often in the 90s F ) that may cause the developing buds to blast. Having said that I also notice that the recent hot, dry weather has encouraged them to initiate blooming and all of them are holding their buds well.

I am sure they will do well in Florida given that one of the parents (Broughtonia) practically grows in your backyard in the West Indies.
