Red face sick orchid with spongy base

My favorite orchid has a wet spongy area at the root of the leave, it has lost 3 leaves so far, the 2 remaining leaves seem ok for now. The root of the plant feels spongy where the leaves came off, What is this and how do I treat it?? I have isolated this plant. My orchid is a phal.

I would recommend posting a picture of the affected areas so we can see what is going on. However, I would guess it is some type of infection, bacterial or otherwise. You may need to treat with a fungicide, but without a picture it's just a guess.

If it is a bacterial problem, soak with hydrogen peroxide.

Good advice from both Connie and Cindi. If you have a photo of the orchid it would help.
