Semi-Hydro with a dendrobium orchid

After much reading about semi-hydro, I was all hyped up to try it. I want to try it out. So, I chose a small NOID dendrobium which i rescued to try.



First, I chose a NOID dendrobium to start.


Removed the plant from the pot and washed off the roots


Prepared some tepid water and added seaweed extract into the water


Soaked the plant in the tepid water mixture


Bought this container from a shop at 20cents a piece


Punched a hole with a small screwdriver


Repeat the punching to produce a series of holes


Washed some charcoal


Prepared and drank some coke, while I waited for the plant to soak


Filled the container with charcoal, filled it with water to test the result


Potted the plant


Added some sphagnum on the top for aesthetic purposes


The final product, now just need to sit and wait...more coke?

I've never thought of using charcoal before... I did however tried using diatomite and the
results were not good. please update us on the progress...

There's one reason why charcoal is used......because that is the only thing I have in the storeroom right now

Hmmm, well, I used to have some LC that I plant with only coal. My LC yellow bird thrived on coal only medium until it fell to its death a few days ago when a strong gust of wind sent it plummeting down 27 levels....
