Wilsonara questions

i have just recently purchased a Wilsonara California Cherub 'Orange Cascade' and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them as i am new to some of the details with orchids. i think that it is an intergenic hybrid and i should follow the needs of the oncidinae family(i think). only had it a week and it was already fully flowered now some of them are dieing, but no other signs of stress. i don't know if i'm killing it or if it's just that time. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Some oncidiums can have rather short lived flowers. As long as the plant appears healthy I wouldn't worry.

Looking at the breeding of Wilsonara California Cherub = Odontioda Glyndebourne Cherubino x Wilsonara Firecracker and it was registered in July 2008 ,I suspect that the name could be correct,but that it is grown from seed and is not a clone as the name would suggest.

As for the flowers fading very quickly - that could very well happen if it has taken more after the mother's side of the breeding - Odontioda Glyndebourne Cherubino and the humidity was not kept up around 70%. The oncidium that has been used to produce this is Oncidium hastatum and that is two generations back . From looking at the photos on the web,the flowers do look very much that of the Odontioda

thanks alot guys. i'm probably not keeping the humidity at 70 but maybe 50. but i'm pretty sure it's just that time. the lady that sold it to me said it blooms a couple times a year but i don't see any other signs of spike. and i thought that if you were in an orchid show you had to have the names and history correct. maybe only to enter into them and not to sell them on the side?

all of the flowers have finaly died, but i don't know what to do with the flower spike. most of the spike is still pretty fleshy feeling but it's tan or wood colored (can't remember if i bought it that way) with the dead flowers still on it. should i leave it or should i cut it down to near the base? thanks in advance.

Cut it off near its base.
