Cymbidium finlaysonianum - GREAT ADAPTATION !

Recently I saw this Cymbidium growing upside down, out of cracked horizontal beam of a shoplot. no leaf litter to capture, No watering, no fertilizers, no fungicides and no insecticides. Just simply Great Adaptation, surviving on the condensation from the airconditioning !

That is sooooo cool! Love seeing plants adapt to strange surroundings. Thanks for sharing this pic. Makes me think that sometimes we are TOO good to our orchids and perhaps that is why they don't perform as well as they would with some neglect.

Thanks guys ! My guess is there must be some form of symbiotic mycorrhizall fungi feeding this plant which our regular fungicides application kills.

So true...I have a cymbidium that has survived (this time). Mine usually slowly die off. I don't water it...don't give it the fertilizer I should or I dump half a bucket of left over stuff on it all at one time. It sits out front in bad weather or good and it's thriving. lol I've never had one survive before. I must not have neglected them well enough before.

I also notice the horizontal crack on the seam between wall and ceiling and water leakage from it and that it is growing next to the sewage/drainage pipe.I wouldn't even discount the regular 'fertilising' from gecko droppings and, of course the possibility of that symbiotic relationsship with the fungus.

PS - I had to go back and look very close, but I see him on the vertical pipe.
