What type of "spike" is this?

Ok my rescued orchid, Volcano Trick "Orange Fire", needed to be repotted badly. Roots were making their second go round in the pot with almost no medium. After repotting, I noticed this spike. It is about 10 inches long. What is it?



Is it a Kieki? I assume that means a baby plant? (I'll get the language down yet)

Looks like a new growth...so it will become a new pseudobulb, topped with leaves, just like the others. So, a good thing. Catts will put up a new growth, and then as the growth matures (and if the plant is old enough and feels like blooming), that growth will put up a bloom sheath. They only bloom on new pbulbs, not on old ones (but old ones help provide energy for the plant, so they still serve a purpose.) It looks like your plant is happy.

Healthy new growth you have as Kathi and David have said. You will probably see blooms from that growth as it develops.
