Newly Purchased Orchids

I'm back now in this forum. I was too busy of searching Philippine indigenous Hoya, Medinilla, and Huperzia species. I was also trying to study the floral structures of my unknown Hoya species, which I have found 4 different specimens.

I have newly purchased jewels from the forest of the Philippines. My plants are little bit dormant growing because of prolonged rains which prevented them of flowering this summer time in Mindanao island, Philippines.

More thanks guys. My paphs are all endemic to Mindanao island, Philippines. Those paphs I think they are freshly gathered. I'm hoping again that they may grow because I was not able to grow them successful. For 6 years of growing these jewels I have no idea of growing them. Now, I'm carefully studying their growth. I'd like to collect more Paphs from our island for mass propagation for my botanical specimens like Paphiopedilum adductum, Paphiopedilum ciliolare, Paphiopedilum philippinensis, Paphiopedilum randsii and Paphiopedilum roebbelenii.

And as for Bulbophyllum, I have found many species in our island that I will be later collect.

Hey Derek long time no hear and see.

I'd sure love to have a Paph anitum. Also, I've not been very successful with the Randsii. They are so slow growers and difficult to care for. My few plants easily died but I'll try again since most of my Paphs seem to be growing well now. I discovered that most of the paphs we have love to be grown as thick clumps instead of just singletons as being sold in most stores. I planted them in a mixture of organic debris and some loose gravel for better drainage. I added some chalk to the mixture for the calcium and they seem to be doing well with that addition. You know chalk like the one used in classrooms?

I'll be going to Mindanao CDO around March 24-28 - some family affair. I hope to be able to have time to check the orchids around. Last December 25 till Jan 1st I was in Davao del Sur (Panabo city) to be with my dear adopted kid but I was so tied up with him I never got the chance to check out the orchids there. Geesh!

Hope you are doing fine. Also I hope your plants will do better this time around.

How are the Aerides fortichii you told me about before? I was hoping to be able to have at least one for my collection. Hehehehe.

My Aerides were not doing well. They are grow very slowly and remained dormant due to heavy rainfall.

Both Paphiopedilum anitum and Paphiopedilum randsii prefers high loam soil with rocks and sand.
They like bright light in the morning.

My plants were treated with Superthrive (Plant Growth Hormone) which enables them to grow normally and prevents them from transplant shock.
