Neofinita, Miltonia and Masdevalias arrive!

I've almost got my old house sold...so I get more time to spend with orchids again. Finally! I found a new vendor and have decided to venture into a few of the interesting orchids. My new group includes a Neofinitia (green flowers i'm told)...a Miltonia that arrived with a nice couple of flowers....and a couple masdevalias. One of the masd' types appears to have a seed pod. I got a really good pic of one of the flowers from the masd. I am including pics of them after potting and would totally appreciate comments for all three types as I am pretty new to all but the miltonia.

I think I did pretty well. I almost put the neo on wood. I have the oncid already on the driftwood...maybe I will transfer it. What do you think? As I said earlier, wish me well. I would live to find a new species that likes to flower here. I rushed the milt and the two masd.'s back into the house as soon as I got them potted. I doubt they would like the 80% humidity and extreme bright conditions out back.

Nice bunch of healthy plants and some great roots. And yes, looks like you have the start of a seedpod as well. I keep my Neofinetia in moss. Now I am probably going to get shot for saying that because I know alot of people here do not like moss but I do and it keeps them well. The only thing with moss is unless it is live moss you have to replace it more often and if it dries out you need to make sure you rehydrate it well or the water will just flow right through. Same with the Masd., mine are all in moss. I like to lift plants to see if they feel light (need watered) and I think it is easier with moss than bark.
Congratulations and enjoy. My only concern with the Masd. is understanding if they are cool, intermediate or warm lovers and in my case I also have a case of the shivers thinking of spider mites which I have been fighting in my Masd. for several months.

Thank you for the help! I too use moss, although when I first started with phals I swore it was awful stuff. lol As far as bugs, I have a new approach. I have a systemic that I use when i'm potting new plants (added to my water, with physan as well and usually root hormone). I also have a spray bottle with an anti-fungal and a topical bug treatment. Ear swabs and alcohol are for the times when I spot adult scale, as well as thrips. The earswab is dipped in alcohol and you use the swab to wipe the bug off. I then drop it into a small thing of alcohol (usually in the lid). I have fewer and fewer bugs...and more and more buds.

Great haul and congratulations Connie for getting all healthy plants your masd and Miltonia are good quality hybrids and very pretty indeed so far you done quite well I hope soon they will adapt to your environment, proliferate and your wish will come true.

New arrivals, that's so exciting. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of experience with masds or the neofinita. From your pictures it looks like the neofinita would do very well mounted on the driftwood though.

How neat to expand out into other orchid species and hybrids. The health of the plants and your excellent potting/mounting have already been commented on so I won't repeat the obvious. I to like moss though my experience is limited to using it as a loose 'dressing' or top dressing for a few moisture loving orchids. I like your selections Connie. AL
