Amaryllis

A friend gave it to me in the last four months when we have the opportunity to come together to chat, then it is just a bare bulb leaves have fallen off, after I take some time to grow between May the flowers start blooming

Around here, they are heavily marketed at Christmas time.

Same here. I didn't know the bloomed any other time of the year until recently when my neighbor showed me hers in bloom.

FYI, that is a Fireball lily or Blood lily, Scadoxus multiflorus, Very aptly named! And Amaryllis are correctly called Hippeastrum (Hip-pee-ast-rum).

Either way, Beautiful blooms! i have a red Hippeastrum that was given to me before my friend passed away a few years back of cancer......She had about 6 of the same one, and they hadn't flowered since her husband died about 4 years earlier, then three weeks after she had passed away, BOOM! the went crazy! every single Hippeastrum and Nerine across the road (where she lived from us) was in bloom. A very fitting send off
