Default Potinara Cloud's Creek 'Heavenly Scent'

    Hi friends...
this potinara was attacked by slugs and one of the 2 buds was badly damaged and fell off. Are all potinara this spindly?
The scent is citrus and just wonderful...this is the first bloom for this plant. Enjoy!

I like the slighty pink blush on the two petals and the yellow with redish/pink on the lip. It should put on a show the next time this one blooms. Did you throw a couple of pennies in this pot to keep the slugs away? Happy Growing, Rich

Very beautiful. Not all potinaras are spindly, but I find Slc that I grow are rather spindly and slow growers.

Very beautiful flowers!, No not all Potinaras are spindly, it depends on the Brassavola percentage in the hybrid, as most Brassavolas tend to be leggy and spindly. Potinara is a hybrid of all 4 genera (Catts, Laelia, Sophro and Brassavola) so the percentage of each can vary, from the flower form of this one the strong Brassavola influence is clear already.

    Amey,
This you didn't got right. This hybrid has no Brassavola in it's genealogical tree.
The majority of this hybrids ancestors have naturally narrow or medium large segments.
We can see a influence of Rhyncholaelia digbyana in the lip. Everything else can't be traced back to any other species because it is a very complex hybrid. Rhyncholaelia digbyana (ex. Brassavola digbyana) appears only two times and counts for less than 3% influence.

Thanks Horst, I forgot Brassavola digbyana was now a Rhyncholaelia !!! Considering that it has mathematically just 3 % of Rhyncholaelia the effect on the lip is still prominant. As I do not know the pedigree of this hybrid and from the flower, I thought it might have high Brassavola digbyana (now Rhyncholaelia) percentage . I also forgot about the spindly Laelias (these flowers look no where like the spindly Laelias though). But as you say it is a complex hybrid, it must be the reason. I think I have to get Orchid Wiz now LOL.

    Amey,
As you can see from my other reply to this thread I was intrigued by this flower and I tracked more precise. I must confess that my first track wasn't correct.
The influence of Rl. digbyana is about 6%.
Pardon me. Next time I will not shoot from the hip.
