    Default Sneaky Orchids

    I have seen others post threads about how an orchid flowered before the owner even noticed it was going to happen. I have always thought how impossible that is. We all watch our babies like crazy. Well, yesterday it happened to me! I was watering and noticed that a new lead on one of my Catts had started to open buds!!! Where did those come from! This orchid blasted it's first set of buds, has 2 dry sheaths and didn't even produce a sheath this time! I am NOT complaining because I am going to get BLOOMS!!!!! I will post pics when it finishes blooming.

    hehe now when did that happen? oh yes, when i had my Chiloglottis cornuta, i noticed 3 fat plumb buds on the little guys, and the next day i saw the opened blooms lying about 5cm from the plants....damned snails.

    Congratulations on your up and coming blooms Jonada. I am sure that helped make your day. You got me thinking when you wrote about "no sheath". It made me wonder if I will ever really understand these orchids. Just when I think I have got the care down pat to bloom a particular kind, its like the rules change. Certainly keeps you going don't you think? AL

    It certainly does!! And I feel the same way, Al. You never, never know for sure what will happen next. This same plant came to me with 3 green sheaths. I watched one of them fill up with three fat buds, they started to emerge and then they withered. Since then, the two remaining sheaths have since dried, but I have heard that they may still bloom, so I am leaving them. I didn't even think this growth was mature enough TO bloom. I am very happy though. And I am now watching my C. skinnieri alba that has a beautiful new growth that is nearly as large as the old ones. Hoping
