    Default Epidendrum radicans-orange/red/mahogany

I thought this would fit here because Epidendrum is a member of the Cattleya alliance

This cane is about 2m high, and is a single growth at this stage. Hopefully it will continue to bloom for a further 3 or 4 months like my white one did. The pictures show it as being orange in colour, but it is actually more of a red/mahogany colour.

Very nice Jordan. Quite surprised it is doing so well in NZ . How does it cope in the winter?

Epidendrums like that are sooo nice. They grow like weeds and have the most amazing bright little flowers.

I can grow these outside no problem, so long as they dont get frosted. They can spike anytime here, its a matter of watching and waiting!

We grow an orange one like this one here. Grows like a weed with little care. But, like Jordan said, this orchid blooms whenever it wants - no apparent schedule so it is a matter of watching and waiting.

    cheers,
    BD

I have a small one, only about 8-10" tall so far. Hope I don't have to wait too long for it to surprise me with some blooms. Does it need to be staked as it grows? I can't see this specimen making it to 2 meters tall without falling over! Anyway I really like these crucifix orchids, as I've heard them called.

Up to 2 feet you don't need to stake but the taller ones do need staking especially in areas with strong winds.
