Jamaica: Blue Mountains Rain Forest: Terrestrial Orchid: ID

Hi,

I am living in Jamaica, and during an expedition into the rain forest between the Blue Mountains, I have discovered this little terrestrial orchid.

The roots were in the soil, but it climbed a little bush otherwise. I also recognized leaf fungus. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything about the fragrance.

What orchid could this be?

It is not an orchid, but a Hoya. And with that, I have exhausted my knowledge of the Genus.

Yes, a Hoya. Perhaps Pavel will have some idea on what type.

Indeed it is a Hoya but could not find which type. Hoya's are natural of Asia Australia and Polynesia. You have found a naturalized plant since they grow like weeds! Interestingly Hoyas and Orchids have their pollen in clumps called "pollinia" .

I have always wondered where they were native to..pretty little flowers. And very hardy. I have a very neglected one out on the front porch.

But still, it is very frustrating to me, ha ha ha! I thought I got a new native orchid, and all I got is a little weedy shrub. However, I will continue to grow it (I got a cuttling), But take time...

I believe the name of that Hoya is H. angustifolia

I really don't know much about the background of Hoyas, but I do know this, they are not only beautiful,very heavy substance flowers/plants, but they are also low maintenance, tough buggers. AL
